John Battle is Head of Legal and Compliance at ITN and has been in this role for 20 years advising the editorial team on issues such as contempt of court, defamation, privacy, copyright and Ofcom regulations. He also advises ITN on data protection and cyber security. He has previously worked as Legal Manager at News UK and also Group Legal Advisor at Associated Newspapers. He is a barrister and the Chair of Media Lawyers Association, Vice Chair of the DSMA Notice system and a Bencher of Lincoln’s Inn. He has a special interest in open justice issues and has been a key figure on the issue of cameras in court.
